Have you heard of this latest diagnosis regarding caregivers who get exhausted from giving too much…hmmm I know myself tend to do that so here I am putting myself first. Nurses needs to learn this lesson sometimes the hard way but it’s never too late. After weeks of dealing with residents having difficulty with Mental illness, death with family and violence @ work I found myself in DEAD ZONE where I had no energy left to even help myself.
It is a rude awakening to lose your BALANCE it’s all about this..whatever you do you need to center yourself and find your balance in whatever action you’re going to do. It was a shock how I can lose my balance when everything in my inner world was all about PEACE and MEDITATION. But as I take problems as an opportunities to become a better person or be in a better place, once again I took this as one of my LESSONS to LEARN.
These are the steps to keep your BALANCE:
1. Keep your routine! things that you do to keep your self sane! for me it’s meditation and yoga stretch in the morning. Writing as I go through my day.
2. Listen to your EMOTIONS, when you find yourself overwhelm with other peoples problems it’s a sign that you are trespassing others field. Meaning keep your COOL!
3. Watch for physical symptoms such as INSOMNIA that means you are not @ PEACE with your self. Mind, body and spirit when align keeps you in a SOUND SLEEP.
4. Feel your BODY, if you’re not doing exercise everyday you are forgetting your vehicle to BALANCE. A sound body and a sound mind keeps the Dr away.
5. LOVE your SELF FIRST! then you can love others. Caregivers tend to put themselves the last on the list. They like to rescue but they forget to help themselves.
Hope these simple pointers will help other rescuers like me! nice and sweet today nothing airy fairy! the angel is grounded I would stay being a nurse…and if someone needs an angel I can also be one.
Namaste,
Teza
